Radar Online reports that former “The L Word” star Leisha Hailey may have been kicked off a Southwest Airlines flight for sharing an enthusiastic kiss with her partner, Camila Grey. As reported by Southwest, however, the real reason was a display of offensive language. Resource for this article: Leisha Hailey claims Southwest Air booted her over lesbian kiss
Attempting to keep the flight family friendly
Grey and Hailey ended up getting sent off of Southwest’s flight. This was after, according to Hailey, the flight attendant implied the couple did not have “family values” since they were kissing
"Southwest Air endorses homophobic employees," tweeted Leisha Hailey. "Since when is showing affection toward someone you love illegal? I want to know what Southwest Airlines considers a 'family.'"
Hailey extended her tweet with: "Boycott Southwest Air if you are gay. They don't like us." She also demanded a public apology from Southwest Airlines.
Being wildly inappropriate
Southwest claimed that Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey were acting inappropriately. The flight worker had nothing else to do but act.
"Our crew, responsible for the comfort of all customers on board, approached the passengers based solely on behavior and not gender," Southwest wrote in a public statement. "The conversation escalated to a level that was better resolved on the ground, as opposed to in flight."
Identifying the problem
There have been no comments from the airline on the issue. This is when forgetting about the first written public statement. A second statement was then later released that said the flight attendant for southwest took Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey off the flight because of the profane language, not the conduct.
“Although we have reports of what customers characterize as an excessive public display of affection, ultimately their aggressive reaction led to their removal from the aircraft. We do not tolerate discrimination against anyone for any reason. In this situation, their removal was directly and solely related to the escalated conversation that developed on board the aircraft,” read the latter statement.
Crime, the women say
Hailey and Grey have no stopped talking of the hate Southwest Airlines has, despite the PR spin Southwest did showing it supported the LGBT community, Radar Online explains.
“In no way were our actions on Southwest Airlines excessive, inappropriate or vulgar... We were simply being affectionate like any normal couple,” read a statement from Hailey. “We take full responsibility for getting verbally upset with the flight attendant after being told it was a ‘family airline.’ No matter how quietly homophobia is whispered, it doesn’t make it any less loud. You can’t whisper hate.”
