We're pleased to announce our next regular event, taking place on Wednesday 19th October, back at our regular venue in the Freemasons' Hall (close to Holborn, Covent Garden, Tottenham Court Road and Temple stations).

John Haggis from Sheridan Solicitors returns to speak for us, talking about Facebook's privacy policies, Alex Housley from Rummble will talk about social recommendations using the Facebook Graph and collaborative filtering, and Iskandar Najmuddin, Technical Director at Syncapse (formerly Nudge) will give us a bumper-sized rundown on all the latest platform updates in the last three months, including those announced at f8 2011 in late September.

As usual, we'll have Dave Nattriss, freelance developer and FDGL secretary and webmaster, running down what's hot on Facebook, and an introduction with other Facebook news from Todd Chaffee, FDGL's chairman. More speakers and talks will be announced as soon as possible.

Our events sell out each time within days, so be quick to buy your ticket(s). We'll have beer, wine, juice and pizza, possibly some Facebook swag, and will go for after-drinks at O'Neills across the road for those that want to wind down afterwards.

Freemasons’ Hall is the headquarters of the United Grand Lodge of England and the principal meeting place for Masonic Lodges in London. Grand Lodge has been in Great Queen Street since 1775, the present Hall being the third building on the site.

Built between 1927–1932 as a memorial to the Freemasons who died in the First World War, it is one of the finest Art Deco buildings in England, and is now Grade II* listed internally and externally. In addition to the Grand Temple (seating 1700) there are 21 Lodge Rooms, a Library and Museum, Board and Committee Rooms and administrative offices. The building is fully open to the public.

Lodge Room 1 can be found by following the main central corridor from the main reception until the end, and it is on the left past the lifts.

Some of what I have written about is state-of-the-art, and you might not even find it on the usual pro-tech or transhumanist websites like kurzweilai.net, hplusmagazine.com or acceler8or.com. e.g. I recently wrote about unsupervised semantic parsing (and indirectly about unsupervised ontology induction), which is a BIG BIG DEAL in A.I. research... but is not exactly the sort of thing you will see discussed on kurzweilai.net, for instance.

Anyone who has passed the CFA Level I (or the CFA in general), what are your thoughts on the different prep providers? I am taking the June Level I exam and obviously I'd like to pass. Based on my research, it looks like Kaplan Schweser is generally accepted as one of the best, so that's what I'm leaning towards at the moment. As such, I wouldn't mind any input on the package I should purchase (there are four different options)...

"Friending" someone is the act of sending another user a friend request on Facebook. Once the friend request is set, the two people are Facebook friends once the receiving party accepts the friend request.
